Ten days. Ten days is all it took to create this stunning shawlette. Or should I say shawl, since it’s a lot bigger (and heavier) than a shawlette. Never the less, I am love with this new object of fluffyness, warmth and pastel!

Stats
Pattern: South Bay Shawlette, free and on Ravelry here
Yarn: 100% organic merino, hand dyed in pastel rainbow (3 skeins) and apricot (1 skein), 225 meter per skein
Purchased at: Devon Sun Yarns on Facebook (if you want to purchase yarn just message her)
Hook size: 6mm
Time: ten days from start to finish, probably two days in total
Happiness level: very much in love with this new pastel shawl addition!

This pattern is simply yet elegant, and extremely easy to memorize, making it a perfect carry-along project!
The yarn I used here is wonderfully soft, thick and warm. I wanted to do this project with a 5mm hook size but I found the stitches came out too tight, so I moved up to a 6mm. Originally I planned on totally blocking this shawl, but when I finished the border the other day the drape was already lovely, and the stitch definition is great because I used a slightly larger hook. That saves me a day of waiting for it to dry!
I modified the border in the pattern as follows: 1 row of hdc, 1 row *1dc, ch1, sk 1*, 1 row hdc, 1 row *1dc, ch1, sk1*, 1 row hdc, and finally 1 row *sc, ch1, sk3, [dc2tog, ch3] 5 times in same stitch, ch1, sk3*. I finished the border by adding one row to the straight edge: *5hdc, ch1*.

This shawl is pretty big and very warm and snuggly, making it perfect for late summer evenings when the temperature drops a little below what you’re expecting :) I use it as a wrap, keeping my shoulders warm at night and when I sit at my computer, like right now.
I am definitely going to make another South Bay Shawlette (some day), but this time in a thinner yarn with the intention of blocking it. I’m thinking of using something like Drops Lace in an off-white or pink pastel colour, you know, make it nice and romantic :) I’d love to have a thinner, more suitable for summer variation of this shawl.

Oh how gorgeous! I wish I could find lovely yarns like this where I live, I much prefer to touch & feel yarn before I buy rather than sight unseen online :(
I have just come across your blog Wink, via your overlay mandalas I saw on Pinterest, congratulations on the wonderful ‘cosy’ feel your blog has.
Warm regards from Australia
