Last week I got invited to visit the Seal Rehabilitation Centre in Pieterburen, The Netherlands. The centre is very well-known around here, and it is run by Lenie ‘t Hart. Lenie ‘t Hart has been rehabilitating sick and injured seals since the centre was founded in Pieterburen in 1971. The centre has evolved from a simple ‘crèche’ for young seals to a scientific research-based seal hospital, with accompanying facilities such as quarantines, a laboratory, a chemist and all the research equipment imaginable. All rehabilitated seals are released into the wild after their rehabilitation period, which lasts from several weeks to a maximum of several months.
What does this have to do with crochet you ask? Well, by the entrance of the centre are 11 concrete seals, just begging for a make-over. And I’m one of the people they asked to yarn-bomb a seal! :)

This is ‘my’ seal, and I’m going to yarn bomb it somewhere in September. The kind people of Scheepjeswol have offered to sponsor me, which means they’re going to provide me with enough yarn to make this seal snug as a seal in a rug :)
I’m super excited about this project, and I will definitely keep you all posted on it’s progress!
xo,
wink
