I’ve got such a cute book to share with you today! It’s Gooseberry Patch’s latest: Stitching for the Kitchen; 30 easy sewing, patchwork and embroidery projects for the heart of your home. It’s published by Sixth&Spring Books, New York, and it is truly adorable.
There are two parts to this book. The first is ‘Let’s Get Stitching’, and features all 30 projects in the book. Part two is ‘Tips and Techniques’, and has all sorts of useful information like embroidery techniques, measurement conversion charts and more.
The projects and patterns in this book are very diverse, and make this a great book to gift to a crafty relative or friend!
The projects don’t come with skill levels; they’re suited for everyone. Most sewing patterns have pattern sheets available, which are at the back of the book in a little folder; and they’re full size! So no need to resize everything.
The instructions are clear and well written, and are livened up by super cute illustrations of pies and cookies. Pies and cookies people!
There are a couple of crochet projects in the book, like a cute rag rug made from fabric scraps. The book has a couple of pages with crochet stitch explanations, featuring illustrations that I think most people will understand. They use US terms and abbreviations for the stitches.
But my absolute favorite feature of of this book? It’s spiral bound, meaning it lays totally flat when it’s opened! More publishers should do this; it’s such a good feature!
This book retails for $17.71 (on Amazon here) and I think it’s a great gift to give. It’s a versatile book and although some projects aren’t for everyone, there are enough projects in there to make you happy :)
You can win a copy of this book, too! Just leave a comment here saying what projects you like best (sewing, embroidery, patchwork, crochet, knitting, other). I’ll pick a winner next week! :)
xo,
wink

Oh, this book looks delightful! Each photo you showed in your review gave me a new idea of someone who would LOVE being gifted with that project! Typically, I would say the crocheted or knitted items are my favorites; however, all of the items are way too cute to eliminate. Okay, you really NEED an answer? Here are my favorites, in no particular order: knit, crochet, sewing, embroidery.
I’m sorry I cannot be more decisive, but they are all so luscious I can’t elminate any of them!
August 2, 2013 at 3:11 pm

I do love sewing projects quite a bit, especially the little girlie dresses I’ve been sewing for my 1 yr old Granddaughter who, along with her parents are living here temporarily. She is so cute wanting to put them on right away. In the past few years however, I have been learning to quilt so much of my time is now spent making quilt blocks and quilts or quilt projects. In following the blog tour/hop for this book, I have really liked a lot of the projects that have been shown. I think my favorite so far has to be the little owl tea cozy. That’s such a cute idea.
August 2, 2013 at 11:45 pm
Well I love crochet, but at the moment I’m totally in love with embroidery! But patchworking is also fun.. Just like knitting.. Do I really have to choose??
August 3, 2013 at 12:05 am
Thank you for the opportunity to enter, Wink; it looks such a lovely book! Although all of the book’s subjects interest me, it’s embroidery, crochet and knitting that ‘have’ me at this present time!

August 3, 2013 at 5:40 pm
I only crochet, but I do have some needle and thread. The sugar cozy on the mug could probably be made into a tea bag holder with a waterproof material and would be the perfect gift for my mom. (She likes to get two cups of tea from one tea bag in the morning, I say “eww”, but whatever.)
August 3, 2013 at 6:34 pm
I cannot pick just one thing…I sew, make quilts and crochet up the wazoo! Today I’ve been sewing up my unfinished quilt blocks and making them into pillows and purses. Later in afternoon I’ll be crocheting my stripes granny blanket…all in one day…I love craft books with more than one genre….
August 4, 2013 at 1:34 am
