Do you know The Jealous Curator? She blogs about art that “inspires and depresses me. I know it’s good when I’m left thinking DAMN I WISH I THOUGH OF THAT.”
I love looking at new to me art and the jealous curator never ceases to surprise me with her finds.
One of those finds was the amazing work of Garima Dhawan; a textile designer/print maker. She sells her stuff on Society6 and Spoonflower, and this piece caught my eye last week:

I seriously contemplated buying this and hanging it on my wall; it makes my heart sing, tunes I didn’t even know it had! But as always, a lacking budget was what stopped me. I knew this piece had to become a mandala no matter what, but when I started choosing the colors for the yarn, I had an even better idea.
I wouldn’t make just one big mandala, no. I was going to make 16 small ones, inspired by this fabulous artwork!
I bought a blank canvas and after priming it, painted it with some very light terracotta paint. I added some texture (hard to see in the picture) by using a sponge and some darker terracotta.

I cut out 16 circles of card stock and ModPodged them to the circles. After those had dried and the canvas was ready, I used clear craft glue to adhere the circles to the canvas.
And voila!

I LOVED doing this! This definitely won’t be the last crochet painting you see here…

Wow . . . Crochet painting, that is a super awesome concept! I would totally jealously curate that because I just had a “wish I thought of that” moment.
